The report summarizes a Practitioner Workshop by the Africa Electrification Initiative (AEI), which gathered about 230 practitioners from 41 countries, including 33 Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) countries whose day-to-day activities concentrate on electrification. The focus was on ground-level implementation of different institutional approaches to electrification, with particular attention on the experiences of rural energy agencies/rural energy funds across SSA.

It is geared primarily to rural and peri-urban zones, and intents to initiate a CEMAC-wide impetus in the energy sector in a bid to meet the objective of reducing poverty by 2015.

Study on the establishment of a West African Regional Agency for Energy Access (RAEA). Executive Summary

The ECOWAS/UEMOA Member States have committed themselves to a White Paper on Energy Access, which proposes the establishment of a Regional Agency for Energy Access (RAEA). This report, financed by EUEI PDF, proposes the institutional setup and program for the RAEA as a lean and goal-oriented agency that can respond quickly and professionally to the challenge of regional energy access.
